Silverstone, on a former WWII airfield in Northamptonshire, hosted the very first round of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950 and has been the spiritual home of British motor racing ever since. It is one of the fastest, most flowing laps on the calendar: 5.891 km and 18 corners taken at huge average speed, with the legendary Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel complex demanding more from a car than almost anywhere in the world.

Modern pole laps run into the 1:25s. The lap rewards aerodynamic load and bravery: the quick direction changes through Becketts, the long Hangar Straight, and high-speed corners like Copse and Stowe mean a tenth here is hard-earned.
