The Hungaroring, in the hills at Mogyoród just outside Budapest, is one of the tightest, twistiest permanent circuits in Formula 1, often described as Monaco without the walls. Its 4.381 km lap packs 14 corners with almost no rest, putting a premium on downforce, rhythm and a well-balanced car.
First held in 1986 as the championship's first race behind the Iron Curtain, it has been a fixture ever since. Overtaking is famously hard, so a clean lap in qualifying is gold: pole runs around 1:17.
